I've seen it said on several Chesterton sites, that Chesterton is the most quoted author of the 20th Century. I guess you'd have to expect that on a site devoted to Chesterton. Freely copying from the American Chesterton Society's web site then, here are a few quotes for your review:

Providence, Again!

Well, it happened again! Providence. I was having lunch in Schlegel's, waiting to put up the Chesterton poster the owner has agreed to display for the yet-to-be-formed Chillicothe Chesterton Society and another customer saw the poster. He said: "Hey, I've just started reading Orthodoxy, and I've got the book right here!" He introduced himself as a new graduate of law school and a future seminarian. Lutheran, I believe. He seemed quite enthusiastic and said he'd definitely attend our upcoming first meeting. So.... there should be at least 3 people there. That should be enough to plan for a second meeting. I've put up meeting notices in Book World, Lloyd's Candy Shop (I just can't seem to go by that shop and not stop), St Mary's Church, Trinity United Methodist Church, Calvary Lutheran Church, and M&W Books in Hillsboro. St. Peter's Church (Chillicothe) secretary said a meeting notice will appear in the Sunday bulletin. I also stopped at the Chillicothe Gazette and asked them if they would put a blurb in the paper. They said they would try to accommodate us with a few words.

Is Valentin really Clouseau?

Well, I just listened to the first CD of Kevin O'Brien's dramatic reading of G.K. Chesterton's "The Blue Cross". Kevin's voice for Valentin, "the head of the Paris police and the most famous investigator of the world", reminded me of inspector Clouseau. I almost laughed out loud when I heard it. When I think of Clouseau I invariably remember the scene from "The Pink Panther Strikes Again". Here's the dialogue:

Clouseau: Does yer dewg bite?
Inn Keeper: No.
Clouseau: Nice Doggy
(bends down to pet a dachshund - it snarls and bites
him) I thought you said
yer dewg did not bite!
Inn Keeper: Zat... iz not my dog!

One American Chesterton Society member found in 45601

Well, I contacted the ACS for help in identifying folks who are ACS members in the Chillicothe zip code. There is one. So Dale was gracious enough to encourage me to send him some additional zips. I did that yesterday and I await his response. I sent him the zips from Chillicothe northward toward the southern half of Columbus. It will be interesting to see how many more Chestertonians we come up with. I've sent flyers to a couple of churches and asked the main Library to post a flyer. My daughter is going to post a flyer at OU-C and tell her English instructors about the Society. I'll try to get a notice in the Chillicothe Gazette Datebook.
